I was taking History classes in a prestigious International School in Jakarta. My class consisted mostly of South Koreans. The class that I had to take was on the Korean War. I distributed a map which had the Sea of Japan to the students. To my amazing consternation, a student as soon as he received the map tore it up into shreds. On inquiring him as to what was his problem, he said: ‘it is the sea of Korea not Japan.’ It’s true that Japan has committed many atrocities in Korea. I don’t blame the student for his flaming passions.
