Transcendence meaning something metaphysical, spiritual or supernatural can be stripped of its spiritual meaning and given an earthly meaning. In earthly terms: transcendence is knowing, thinking, willing, feeling and experiencing. Transcendence can be described as the ontology of being’s presence to a meaning.
I would like to say that Transcendence is a beatific term and in spite of postmodern criticism challenging the metaphysics of presence in LOGOS, the term transcendence has withstood all pressures and till today stands as believe-abiding-term especially for Christian believers. The postmodern Philosopher Derrida, the Guru of Deconstruction has challenged the metaphysics of presence and has called Western Christian theology and Philosophy as being LOGOS-centric. The presence of GOD, Jehovah, and Christ as being a center of presence has been ruthlessly challenged by Deconstruction. For challenging this notion of God being the center of presence of meaning, Deconstruction has used structuralism that language as being fraternity of Signs and Signs being divided into the Signifier and the Signified. For example if I say that Dove is Peace, Dove is the Signifier, a visual physical object and Dove belongs to sensible realm of meaning. Peace on the other hand depicts an idea and belongs to the realm of the intelligible. Deconstruction assumes all signs in a language are human constructs and there is no transcendence or presence. And thus Deconstruction has deconstructed Western Philosophy and Theology. Transcendence for existential Philosophers has acquired a new vein of thought. Existential Philosophers have stripped transcendence from the LOGOS of presence and presented transcendence with the experience of meaning in a Being’s subjectivity. For example the CORE of the BEING to a BEING in MEANING is through the process of acceptance, rejection, appropriation, affirmation and negation. All these acts of experience attain a transcendence of function in the metaphysics of the subjectivity of BEING.
