English though being my favorite language baffles me many a time. This is true when I think of its Orthography (spelling). I don’t know to till this day why the English Orthographic association follows a Draconian rigidity of rules to mark the use of spelling. A change of letter as spelling would really do no harm for the Word’s meaning. For example why should the adjective form of the Word great be written as Grateful? Why can’t it be also written as Greatful? The words IE or EI are a conundrumatic enigma. There is a golden rule that what comes after C is E. Let’s take the Word Sovereign. Sovereign has no C and yet defies the golden rule of English spelling. Orthography should change to Democratic Autonomy and permit multiple spellings for the same Word. Ideology of a strict and rigid rule for Orthography should be circumvented and multiple spellings for the same WORD should become permissive. This will go a long way in promoting the already fast growing English Language in a Global Village.
