The shenanigans and old buffoons of the Congress Government of Kerala have adopted a flawed, biased and offensive liquor policy. Kerala also known as God’s Own Country, one of the fifty destinations to visited on planet earth has been a liberal tipplers heaven. Till now there’s been a vast number of two star, three star, four star, five star hotels and also numerous beverage outlets owned by the government of Kerala to dispense alcohol. But now the government has changed its skin to a wolf and has clamped its claws by producing a flawed policy. The Government of Kerala is planning to phase out alcohol gradually out of the state. The first Draconian measure it adopted was to shut down all bars of hotels having two star and three star categories. However, this decision of theirs has been overruled by the Kerala High Court who has given the bar operators of two star and three star outlets to operate for one more month. This is a clear cut policy of economic racism. The poor proletarians of Kerala have only the money to consume the cheapest brands of alcohol that is rum. The rich bureaucrats and politicians consume alcohol when they go abroad and also while spending their time in luxury hotels. For them this is no sin. Yes, they have been caught red handed by the media and they offer only the silence of the lips when asked for comment. To buy alcohol from government owned beverage outlets is the most shameful and degrading process. One has to stand a mile long in serpentine queues to reach the destination. The saddest aspect is that the Government of Kerala has monopolized the sale of alcohol through its outlets. If alcohol was available in all retail and convenience stores one would not have to suffer the dignity and shame of standing in a long queue and be observed degradingly by passersby. Yes, there is a stigma attached to alcohol as though it is some kind of social stigma. Another thing the Government of Kerala does is to raise the taxes of liquor so high that one has to pay through the nose to buy a bottle, that too even being rum. In a democracy, the Government of Kerala is following a Draconian Dictatorship. What will happen to back packer tourists who flock to the shores of Kerala in large numbers? Surely they won’t go through humiliating practice of standing outside beverage outlets. The present policy of the Government of Kerala has led to the migration of tourists to other states such as Goa and also other countries such as Sri Lanka. A drink or two is relaxing and it will settle the mind and also give good sleep. The choice to drink is subjective and it is a right to freedom guaranteed in the constitution. Some celebrated drinkers are Sir Winston Churchill and Mark Twain. To drink good alcohol is not gluttony but being connoisseur, a gourmet. To celebrate and enjoy drinking adds on to the fullness of life and mirth. If I am given a chance, I will never in my life vote for the Congress government but only for the Communist Marxist government. I condemn this schizoid, paranoid, crazy, foolish, policy of the government and I hope they will change their minds from the hypocrisy of moral Puritanism and leave the individual to assert his or her dignity, right and freedom. I hope the government of Kerala will be replaced by senile imbeciles and involve people who are young and who champion the right of people to this age of postmodernism.
