Truth is stranger than fiction, yes it is. This is a true incident that happened in my life. My uncle who is a priest passed away. I, my father and brother in law went to house to collect his belongings. It was raining slightly. And water had seeped through the corridor of a room which led to the kitchen. Ectoplasm is a psychic image of a deceased person. When I happened to be peering into the water lying in the corridor, I happened to see the facial image of my uncle who passed way in it. I called by brother in law to confirm and he was shocked. It’s one of the strangest experiences I have had in my life.
The Raven is a curious bird feathered as a mono-color Devil and it has got mythic, sacred and magical connotations in many cultures.
In India, especially Kerala (God’s Own Country) when the dead are buried, rice balls are placed on the ground and it’s very surprising that the Ravens come and eat them up. It’s a belief done to soothe the soul’s journey into the abode of the uncanny world.
In the Old Testament, we across Prophet Elijah who was fed by the raven, when he was on the hideout and starving in the desert.
Ravens have been symbolic motifs in poems but like its color, it became symbolized as death and death’s carrier.
In the folklore of Albion (England) it’s more than a myth that Ravens have also got be present on top of the Tower of London. If the ravens vanish from there or are harmed, English royalty would topple and so also the empire would disintegrate.
Today morning I woke up very depressed finding no chance to actualize my desires. I am sick and tired of being unemployed and broke. And then to my surprise, I looked out of the window and saw a Raven perched on the branch of the tree and looking at me. All of sudden it opened its beak and started cawing loudly. While cawing it was also staring at me.
My memory swam into all what I know about Ravens. I wondered mythically, is this a message that this enigmatic bird is revealing to me? I wondered and wondered. I shed my rationality and embraced this stranger into my mytho-poetic world.
In the evening to my surprise an employer who had contacted me earlier and to whom I didn’t turn up still was interested in me. She told me that her institution is still interested in me.
I am all surprised and dazzled. Maybe the Raven is a mysterious bird after all!
