The idea for the death of the Book came to me from Prof. Roland Barthes famous dictum: ‘Death of the Author’. The ‘Death of the Author’ is a kind of textuality or reading of the text where the Reader assassinates the author or becomes a phenomenological self of reading or the reader takes over the text in a reading. I have been a teacher of English Literature in the Indian High School System. I am sorry to say that most questions set on English Literature are WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHY AND HOW questions. But I in my humble efforts try to test the intellectual and analytical skill of the students. I am proposing that during the examination students should be given the text or in other words the test should be an open book test. The questions that are set should be framed in such a way that there is little room for copying from the knowledge content of the text.
